This is a quick tip that I think everyone could use if they work in print media. The default behavior of the resize tool for pasted/placed images is to resize the frame, which crops the image area. To change this, choose the subselect tool, which should appear as a white arrow. Then use that tool to select the image. Resize using that tool and it will actually resize the image instead of its frame.
Of course, you can also resize the frame and image at the same time by using the subselect tool to select both of them. Then, when you resize, it will resize both the image and the frame. Pretty easy, right?
